I’m Kyle, the proud owner of Baird Built Ltd, and my journey into the world of building began long before I ever picked up a hammer. As a child, I was captivated by the magic of creation, inspired by the sight of my parents’ garage being built. By the age of 13, I had roped my friends into constructing a hobbit hole complete with a fireplace—an early sign of my passion for making things.

In 2008, I embarked on my professional journey by securing an apprenticeship in luxury home building in the stunning Coromandel region. By 2012, I had completed my training and was ready to take on the challenges of leading complex projects. My dedication and love for the craft propelled me forward, and I quickly rose through the ranks, earning accolades along the way, including being a finalist for Apprentice of the Year in Auckland and winning a Gold Award for a renovation project over $500,000.

At Baird Built Ltd, we specialize in high-end one off buildings that are small enough to fit on a truck or modular, ensuring that every detail is meticulously crafted. I believe that honesty and integrity are the cornerstones of our work, and I strive to foster a collaborative environment through our client weekly wraps and toolbox meetings. My commitment to providing a personal touch and out-of-the-box solutions has earned me raving fans like Rob and Carol Bloomfield, who appreciated the attention to detail throughout their project.

When I’m not building, you’ll find me spending quality time with my family or engaging with our local church community.

Baird Built: Crafting innovative homes in the heart of New Zealand Since its establishment in 2021, Taihape-based Baird Built has been quietly reshaping the local building scene. With a focus on quality craftsmanship, this small but growing company, led by Kyle Baird, is taking on everything from new home builds to renovations—and even some light commercial work.

One of Baird Built’s recent projects, a stunning holiday home built in collaboration with Copeland Associates Architects, highlights Kyle’s ability to combine traditional techniques with modern innovation, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved. This standout project is a holiday home located near Ohakune in the Ruapehu District. The unique residence, set against the majestic backdrop of Mt. Ruapehu and surrounded by forests and Department of Conservation land, has become a remarkable example of the integration of a home into its natural setting.

While the Ohakune holiday home represents a new frontier for Baird Built in terms of prefabrication, the company continues to take on a wide range of projects throughout the Taihape region. In addition to residential work, Baird Built recently completed earthquake strengthening for Ruapehu Farm Supplies in Taihape, demonstrating their versatility in both residential and commercial construction.

Looking ahead, Kyle is optimistic about the future of Baird Built and the potential for more innovative projects like the Ohakune home. “It’s a beautiful home,” Kyle says. “We’re proud of the quality of work we’ve produced, and we’re excited to keep pushing boundaries in the way we build.” With its commitment to craftsmanship, innovative building techniques and a growing portfolio of successful projects, Baird Built is well on its way to becoming a leading name in the New Zealand construction industry.
